Crete Holidays

Crete is a truly spectacular Aegean island with rugged mountains, gorges, and valleys with wild flowers and herbs. Then of course there are the stunning beaches with swathes of golden sand and sheltered rocky coves. The towns and villages are equally picturesque where white washed houses are strewn with bougainvillea, their colourful shutters closed against the heat of the sun.

If your looking for a holiday that offers great nightlife but want to see other pleaces and sights then Crete will really suit you. Having travelled there in 2007 I have since returned again as my first trip was so enjoyable. I didn't think before travelling that there would be as much to do as I found. The nightlife was amazing in Malia and we enjoyed this very much, however we wanted to explore the island during the day, having consulted a local excursion office they recommended a trip to Spinalonga Island. The trip cost 40 Euros and included a coach to the port and boat ride to the island with a buffet lunch and a stop off at another secluded island, which I thought was really good value for money. The island was a former leper Colony and was suprisingly interesting and a great day out.We also did a horse riding trip which was something different which i'd never done before. The watersports on the beach were brilliant and they had a great variety. The prices are resonable especially if you eat at local restaurants they give a great personal service and make you feel really welcome. We stayed in the La Playa apartments on a self catering basis and while it could have done with updating the staff are great and we only paid £190 for the week so cant grumble!

I stayed here last year. Really enjoyed it. The family that ran the hotel were really friendly and liked to sit and chat. They were also happy to make you snacks pretty much whenever you wanted (when they were awake that is). It is a short walk from the centre of Malia (5/10 mins) which was great, with some nice restaurants and shops in between. Quite far from the beach but being a small hotel (about 12 rooms), there was plenty of room around the pool for everyone. Very basic accommodation but would definitely go back. Great for anyone looking for a cheap holiday close to the action of Malia.

We stayed in Stalis for this trip because it is alot more family orientated however Malia is only a very short walk away where there is loads going on. Personally id rather stay in Stalis and have best of both worlds. Quieter through the day and then if you want to let your hair down head to Malia. The beaches are very small this is the only down point. There are loads of restraunts varying in cost you can even eat Chinese or Indian. I would consider going back if we managed to get as good a deal. Recommended for families and young people.
