A cool oasis with fresh white walls and lots of space, ClubHotel Riu Bachata is one good-looking Dominican. The lobby is a prime example. All garden-frescoed ceilings and palm leaf chandeliers, it's got a real Eden-like feel to it. In terms of location, this place sits on Maimon Bay, just footsteps from the shore. What's more, it has its own private slice of beach for you to unwind on. Sand-side entertainment comes in the shape of watersports like windsurfing and kayaking, and the PADI and NAUI qualified dive centre, which caters for both beginner and experienced scuba divers. Those who prefer sand-free sunbathing are just as spoilt. Dotted among the gardens are two pools, bordered by terraces with coconut-thatch parasols and sun loungers. On the food front, there are two elegant eateries to choose from. Take your pick from big buffets or an Italian-come-steakhouse restaurant.
