Halkidiki Holidays

Halkidiki holidays transport you to a scenically beautiful area of northern Greece's Aegean coast. It is a large peninsula with three prongs Kassandra, Sithonia and Mount Athos, each of which have their own particular charm. It is a wonderful area that has wide appeal. With purportedly  the best beaches in Greece, Halkidiki is very popular with parents of young children. Indeed tourists of all ages flock to the peninsula as it has so much to offer. With stunning beaches bathed by clear waters, picturesque harbours, traditional villages, ancient ruins, old churches and monasteries, there is plenty to interest visitors. Cheap Halkidiki holidays can be enjoyed from Easter until the end of autumn. As the mercury rises, you can be sure of long days of sunshine throughout the summer season.

What is there to see and do?

Kassandra, the most popular, is actually an island separated from the peninsula by a canal and connected to it by the Nea Potidea Bridge. It has some of the best beaches and a wide variety of water sports are offered here. It is considered to be the liveliest section of the peninsula but this is a relative term and Kassandra does not party until dawn. A plethora of restaurants provide for all tastes with international cuisine served alongside traditional dishes. If you are new to the flavours of Greece, order Mezes, the equivalent of Spanish tapas, and you'll be given a selection of  bite sized delights that stimulate the apetite. Local wines are very pleasant and offer good value.

Sithonia is a quieter area altogether, where it is easy to find a deserted beach on a coastline that is dotted with small harbours attached to traditional fishing villages. It does however have a golf course. If you wish to see Mount Athos and you are female, take an organised boat trip. Only men are allowed to this holy place and only then in limited numbers. Booking is essential.

Cheap Halkidiki holidays offer a good range of accommodation from room only to all-inclusive. Standards of service are high.

"When it said on News at Ten before departure that there were severe problems in Greece with the heat I didn't realise it was so bad until on arrival at the splendid Athos Palace hotel when I saw guests carried up to there rooms on strethers because of Sunstroke. This resulted in spending the week in the outdoor pool which fortunately had a bar in the middle of it .The hotel itself was in my opinion five star with excellent facilities and surrounding grounds. The nearby town centre had little night life but good restraunts and a few shops. However as it got dark shortly before 9.00pm it was not a walking holiday once the heat died down.A resort for those who are happy reading a book in the shade and relaxing so it looks like the wife will be going back by herself next year.See you in Benidorm"

"a lovely little resort which centres around a main square with restaurants and bars scattered around the streets leading from it. The square comes to life on an evening where stalls and painters come out by the dozen and the restaurants lighten up the night with their different signs and traditonal music. A nightclub called No-Nos can be found in the next resort of Polichrono costing around 3 Euro in a taxi each way, very popular with the locals. Daytime activites tend to centre around the long sandy beach where watersports can be found. The Excursion to the far Peninsula of Mount Athos is highly recommended as the stop at the fishing village of Ouranopolis on the way is a must!"
